Infrastructure Design of External Lighting System

On an area of 230 hectares (2.3km2) this mega site is located in Jubail Industrial City, this project is integrative city contains of multi use buildings (administrative - healthcare - residential - dedicated services - public services), these buildings are connected by mega roads network starts with surround road, internal intersections, major roads and ends with local roads & parking lots. External lighting infrastructure design in the city, includes:

  1. Major Roads
  2. Local Roads
  3. Surrounded Road
  4. Intersection
  5. Pedestrian Lanes
  6. Landscape

In order to achieve theses, the scope of work will cover:

  • Power Cables Network: voltage drop calculations and cables route from main power source to all connected loads.
  • Lighting Design: illuminations levels in all roads and spaces, technical specifications for luminaries as well

The following standards have been followed in design activities:

CIE : The International Commission on Illumination Figure (3)
SEC DPS : Saudi Electricity Distribution Panning Standard Figure (4)

Infrastructure works had been divided to 9 areas with similar spaces to boost design efficiency and constructability inline with other works , to better understand division method see Figure (5)

Lighting:

Fixture types :

Four types of fixtures have been used in addition to one more for landscape areas as in Figure (6)

Lighting Calculations :

Lighting calculation shave been conducted using DIALux Software for all fixture types. Browse images in Figure (7)

Electricity :

الأحمال :

All lighting fixtures are LED with amount of 1533 peaces and total load of 112.7 Kilo.Volt Ampere (including power factor). Figure (8)

الكيابل :

Number of power cables used in this project = 80 copper cable with a total lengths equals to approximately 57000 meters (57 km) , average voltage drop for all cables = 1.18% Volt
